In some ways, summer is no different for me than any other season. My work goes on as usual, I still need to do all the same tasks – it’s just that my 7-year old goes to camp instead of school on my work days.
But, I want MORE than that. I want SUMMER. In order to get that – I know I need to stop & get clarity on exactly what I do and don’t want. These are my ‘go to’ clarity questions.
If I could have my summer just the way I want it, it would be _________________.
I definitely do NOT want ________________________ this summer.
The most important thing about my summer is _____________________________.
After I run through those questions – I write out what I DO know about what I want. Here is what I ended up with.
I DO want the smell, touch & taste of summer. By the end of August, I want to have filled myself with summer-ness. Popsicles, running through the sprinkler at least once, staying up late, sleeping in, spitting watermelon seeds, less schedule, more spontaneity. Ahhh. I’m feeling it already!
Now, the real trick is I go and create time & space in my life for these experiences. If I don’t book it – I’m so likely to arrive at Aug 31st with regrets.
